401st birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan celebrated at Kachomari Ghat, Guwahati

The 401st birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan was observed on Friday near the statue of Lachit Borphukan situated at Kachomari Ghat in Fancy Bazar.

GUWAHATI: The 401st birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan was observed on Friday near the statue of Lachit Borphukan situated at Kachomari Ghat in Fancy Bazar.

The programme started with the lighting of lamps and paying tributes to the statue of Lachit Borphukan by Lok Sabha MP Queen Oja, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, and District Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha commemorating Lachit Divas.

Addressing the meeting, MP Queen Oja mentioned the commendable steps taken by the Government of Assam to introduce Lachit Borphukan to the country and the world. Guwahati mayor said the courage and bravery of Lachit Borphukan continue to inspire the Assamese people. District Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha said there are many opportunities to study the warfare strategy of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan and his leadership skills in difficult times and urged the new generation of students and researchers to come forward in this field. The meeting was attended by Manjurani Burman, principal of Sonaram Higher Secondary School, as a speaker where she spoke about the warfare tactics of Lachit Borphukan.

A drawing competition was also organized for the schoolchildren to commemorate the Lacit Divas, and the students were awarded prizes. The programme was attended by several councils of the corporation and district administration, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Additional District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Hazarika.
