GUWAHATI: There seems to be no end to the menace of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) in Guwahati as in this regard a total of 42 cases were registered under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate in 2020.
While the East Police District registered 27 cases, the Central Police District registered 15 cases during the year. In 2019, a total of 42 cases were registered under the Commissionerate.
According to a police source, most of the FICN are being smuggled to the city from neighbouring countries.
"Last year, a racket engaged in printing FICN was busted in Guwahati. The bust proves that other rackets might be operating in the city," the source underlined.
Amid the elections, FICN to the tune of Rs 12.5 lakh was recovered from a person in the Jorabat area on April 3. The accused was smuggling the FICN to Guwahati.
The source added that FICN was recovered from a militant who was arrested from Gauripur, Dhubri recently.
