GUWAHATI: Why won’t city denizens pass sleepless nights? Believe it or not but it’s a fact that there were as many as 4,328 registered theft cases in areas falling under the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati in 2019 against 4,234 such cases in 2018. There might have been more such cases that went unreported.
According to police sources, East Police district covering Dispur, Hatigaon, Basistha, Bhangagarh and Khetri police stations did register the highest number of theft cases – 1654 – last year. While Dispur police station registered 686 theft cases, Hatigaon police station registered 201 cases, 459 cases by Basistha police station, 160 cases by Bhangagarh police station, 40 cases by Khetri police station and 109 cases by Sonapur police station.
East Police district is followed by Central Police district registering 1,618 theft cases in 2019. The break-up being – 444 theft cases in Chandmari police station, 149 cases in Noonmati police station, 181 in Gitanagar police station, 35 in Pragjyotishpur police station, 40 in Satgaon police station, 265 in Panbazar police station, 380 in Paltan Bazar police station and 124 in Latasil police station.
West Police district had a total of 1,056 theft cases in 2019. The break-up is – 228 cases in Bharalumukh police station, 402 cases in Jalukbari police station, 178 in Gorchuk police station, 126 in Fatasil police station and 122 in Azara police station.
