4th Livestock and Poultry Fair will be a step towards self-sufficiency: Minister Atul Bora

GUWAHATI: With tremendous prospects for the development of animal husbandry in the state, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Assam aims to promote the local farmer and entrepreneur through the 4th Livestock and Poultry Fair. This is a step towards establishing Assam as one of the top five states of the country as per the dreams of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and will be a step towards self-sufficiency, said Minister Atul Bora.

The minister mentioned that the fair will be organized in the livestock farm playground in Khanapara from January 5 to 7, announcing an award of Rs 1 lakh for the best-performing member of the sector. Alongside, the best keeper of cows, buffaloes, goats, pigs, ducks, and other commercial birds will be awarded on a state as well as district basis. He also mentioned that more than 200 outlets have been set up for entrepreneurs from across the state to showcase their products.

He also added that technical sessions, financial workshops, interactions, discussions, business meetings, and a dog and cat show are on the agenda for the 3-day event. The Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Sikkim, is scheduled to participate in the event along with senior officials from Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram. Several organizations associated with the veterinary departments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Meghalaya will also be present to encourage the farmers of the state to work towards self-sufficiency.
