5 Dog Smugglers Arrested in Guwahati

As per reports, incident came to light after police found a dog kept inside a gunny bag of a vehicle by a patrolling team of West Guwahati police.

GUWAHATI: A group of dog smugglers has been arrested from Dhirenpara area of Guwahati on March 11.

As per reports, incident came to light after police found a dog kept inside a gunny bag of a vehicle by a patrolling team of West Guwahati police.

Five persons were travelling in the car bearing registration AS-02-AA-3139.

On intercepting the persons, police found that they carried a dog hidden in a gunny bag. On questioning them further, the group of five men failed to provide satisfactory answers.

Police then searched the vehicle and a total of 10 gunny bags were recovered from inside the vehicle.

The accused persons have been identified as Sunil Bay (19), Devid Ingti (37), Dhoni Ram Ranghang (22), Seron Singh Phangshu (30), and Longbison Lekthe (22).

A case under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code r/w section 11 of the prevention of cruelty to animals act has been registered.

The police have also initiated an investigation on the matter to ascertain further links.
