GUWAHATI: A sister organization of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Assam Mahila Parishad (AMP), had a general meeting of the central committee at the party headquarters in Ambari under the chairmanship of President Barada Kalita on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by more than 500 women representatives from various districts and constituencies in the state. AGP President and Minister Atul Bora spoke in the meeting about the role of women and their part in the state’s development. He also emphasized women’s empowerment. He recalled the women who have contributed their social lives to development.
AGP Working president-cum-Minister Keshab Mahanta said, “The position of women in our society has always been high, and the commitment of women has always been considered a symbol of courage for the society. The sacrifice and hard work of women is one of the driving forces of the Assam Gana Parishad”. The meeting was attended by the party’s general secretary, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Manoj Saikia, Bhupen Roy, Ponakan Barua, Vice President Sunil Deka, Sunil Rajkonwar, and others.
In the meeting, a 51-member central committee of the Assam Mahila Parishad was formed. Atul Bora nominated former presidents of the AMP and former working presidents Barada Kalita and Mamoni Bora as secretaries of the AGP.
