GUWAHATI: The 575th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva was celebrated with a two-day programme by Shrimanta Sankardev Sanskritik Mancha Gujarat at Chandkhera in Ahmedabad recently. The flag was hoisted by prominent Vaishnava Pandit Jatin Lahan at the beginning of the programme.
Other programmes for the occasion included Nam Prasang, an open meeting, a book launch, a Xatriya culture performance, Bhagwat yatra, Bhaona, etc.
The two-day program was attended by the Assamese people residing in Ahmedabad. The artistes, namely Juhimon Das and Krishna Das from Guwahati, under the banner of Ratna Ojah Sanatan Kalapith, performed a number of dance items, like Bhortal Nritya Dashabotar and Nadubhongi, and also a dance drama entitled “Samastate Asa Hari,” directed by Juhimon Das and Krishna Das and performed by Jesmina Begum, Rethina Mili Kristi Das, Mrinangi Barman, Barbi Talukdar, and Gargi Lahkar, in the said programme, stated a press release.
