7 Congress leaders made in charge of municipal board elections

The Congress party will contest in 921 wards of 80 municipal boards in the ensuing civic body election in the State and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora has appointed seven senior party leaders as special election in-charge.

GUWAHATI: The Congress party will contest in 921 wards of 80 municipal boards in the ensuing civic body election in the State and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora has appointed seven senior party leaders as special election in-charge.

Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has been given the responsibility of giving nomination to candidates of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Dhemaji and Sivasagar districts.

Ex-MLA and APCC working president Rana Goswami will be in-charge of candidates of the Jorhat and Golaghat districts.

Deputy-Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Rakibul Hussain will be in-charge of candidates of the Morigaon, Nagaon and Hojai districts.

Another APCC working Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha will be in-charge of candidates of the Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts.

The third APCC working president Jakir Husain Sikdar will be in-charge of Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Bajali and North Salmara (Abhayapuri Municipal Board). APCC general secretary Pradyut Bhuyan will be in-charge of Nalbari, Goalpara and Kamrup districts.

APCC general secretary (Organization) Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjya will be in-charge of Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang and Kamrup Metro (North Guwahati Municipal Board). The APCC president has directed all chairpersons of the party's municipal-level election committees to send their respective lists of candidates and interact with these seven leaders.

Elections to the municipal boards will be held on March 6.
