On Sunday, September 17, we bode farewell to our beloved elder brother, Dhruva Jit Saikia, who peacefully departed for the heavenly abode at the age of 59. Dhruva Jit Saikia, fondly known as ‘Mon da’, was a prominent figure in various realms - a distinguished journalist, a gifted storyteller, an accomplished translator, and a dedicated citizen.
Mon da’s journey of social engagement began during his days at Cotton Collegiate High School, where he served as an assistant general secretary in the student body. As he continued on his path, he became associated with various organizations such as the RSS, Vishva Hindu Parishad, Swami Vivekananda Kendra, and several blood donation groups. His illustrious career commenced as a founding member of Ajir Asom, and he later contributed his talents to The Sentinel and other newspapers.
After a distinguished career in journalism, Mon da took a hiatus and redirected his focus towards translation and literary endeavours. He swiftly established himself as a successful translator and author, leaving behind a remarkable collection of works. With the passing of Mon da, we have lost not only a guardian but also a mentor whose guidance and wisdom will be sorely missed. On this solemn day of his adya shradha, we pay our heartfelt tributes to the cherished memory of Mon da.
