GUWAHATI: "The merging of Construction Worker's Welfare Act and Labourer's Act will adversely affect the welfare benefit meant for construction workers," stated the All Assam Construction Workers' Union (AACWU) on Monday. The AACWU claimed that the workers are facing problems as the Development Board which is meant for the workers has become valueless because of the merging of both the Acts. AACWU general secretary Phanidhar Das said that the government promised the workers to provide home loans but till now they have not received it. "Some of the workers have not yet received financial assistance from the Government after being affected by the lockdown," Das stressed. The members of the union demanded Rs.7,500 as a lockdown subsidy to all the registered workers, home loans, and pay book id cards at all the registered offices. The AACWU workers on Monday sent a memorandum to State government and threatened to stage protests from January, 2021 if their demands are not met.
