Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: A beautiful park constructed by MPLAD fund beside Nursery in Ganeshguri has been wasting away since the time of its construction on December 22, 2006. The park was inaugurated by the then MP Dijen Sharma and was supposed to a relaxing ground for the city residents to leisure and enjoy. However, there are no amusements to attract children and the park is always locked.

There is a private gymnasium inside the park compounds which raises questions as no private enterprise can be run in a public park. Parks are used for walking in the morning and evening, but are also areas where children from lower middle class and poor families play but no such activity can be observed inside this park.

A Guwahatian commented, “I would sometime bring my children here when they would insist on an outing, but we are always disappointed to find it closed.” He said well-to-do families could afford private amusement parks, but for middle class and poor families these parks were the main source for relaxation. “The park has no facilities for children to play and no other activities take place in it. The only functioning centre is the gym which should not be there at all. This park is wastage of a beautiful spot much needed for a busy urban city”, said another Guwahati resident.
