GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had no relation with the BJP, and they could ask people to not vote for him if they desired to do so.

"The ABVP is not part of the BJP and is in no way related. They can protest as much as they want, but I can't do anything. They can also ask people to not vote for me if they want," CM Sarma told the media here today.

The Chief Minister's reaction came after the student organization demanded the use of the Assamese language as the medium of instruction in government-aided schools in the state.

The Assam unit of the ABVP had urged the government to reconsider its decision. However, it backfired as minister Jayanta Mallabaruah reportedly made some loose comments.
