GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) District Road Safety Committee held a meeting today in view of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's appeal to celebrate the upcoming 31st December and the New Year without road accidents.
Deputy Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha presided over the meeting in the presence of District Road Safety Committee Member-Secretary Hemanta Deuri Bharali, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hiranya Barman, Assistant Transport Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan District Transport Officer Goutam Das, Transport Officer Himanshu Kumar Das, Transport Officer Himanshu Kumar Das and the Regional Transport Officer.
At the outset of the meeting, Assistant Transport Commissioner Goutam Das urged the various departments involved in road safety in the district to extend their sincere and responsible support to implement the call given by the Chief Minister to the people of all walks of life to celebrate the upcoming New Year in a completely accident-free manner. Deputy Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha said that from now on, it will be mandatory for every party to clean the picnic spots after having a picnic. "You can't sing loudly at picnics near the habitat of migratory birds or other wild animals like Deepar Beel. One can enjoy picnics only by following specific schedules and guidelines. Strict monitoring will be kept on drivers keeping in mind road safety," the DC said.
On the other hand, after introducing the e-ticket system in city buses, this time the Deputy Commissioner has focused on specifying the city bus stations.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the Circle Officers to take steps to simplify the parking space of buses at important places like Bonda, Vashishtha, Azara etc. In the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Dhrubajyoti Hazarika directed the District Transport Department, Police and Excise Department to intensify the drive against drunk drivers and other illegal activities related to traffic.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hiranya Barman called upon the officials concerned to identify accident-prone spots in the district and remove the vulnerabilities in those places and take more precautionary measures.
