Guwahati: On Sunday night, in a very shameful act by Guwahati residents, the artists who were involved in converting the flyover into a buzzing art hotspot took it upon themselves to clean up the spit stains on the newly build Dispur Flyover.

After repeated warnings by the Chief Minister of Assam on the Inauguration day, to not ruin the hardwork of the many artists who gave their best to decorate the bridge, miscreants still violated and spat on the bridge and the drawings.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed flyover at Dispur Supermarket in Guwahati. Opening the flyover for the general public, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The flyover is now open for public and I request everyone not to spit on the newly constructed bridge. The artists have made a great effort to make the bridge a beautiful one with their paintings. Please do not ruin their effort."

1205 meters in length, the flyover has been constructed with an aim to reduce congestion at the Supermarket by diverting traffic from Ganeshguri to Last Gate. The flyover has been constructed at a cost of Rs 127.20 crore has been completed in 36 months. The new bridge will make hassle-free traffic movement from Khanapara to Ganeshguri. It will also reduce traffic congestion on Paltan Bazar end of Supermarket junction on GS Road by almost 80 per cent.

It may be mentioned here that spit stains of paan-gutka were sighted on the flyover yesterday, angering netizens who slammed the people for showing disrespect towards public property. Further, the Public Works Department (PWD) has asked Guwahati Police to look into the spitting incident which occurred just ahead of the inauguration.
