GUWAHATI: The BJP has shown its organizational strength in the state through its karyakarta sanmelan (workers' conference) in the presence of Union Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) Amit Shah and party's national president JP Nadda. The AGP, an ally of the coalition government in the state, is set to follow suit through the foundation day celebration of the party on October 14, 2022.

After the signing of the Assam Accord, the Assam agitation leaders formed the AGP on October 14, 1985, in Golaghat.

With the 2024 Lok Sabha poll coming closer, the AGP has geared up its organizational activities in the state. The regional party will celebrate its foundation day in Barpeta with the participation of around 25,000 party workers. The party will start its pre-election exercise on October 14.

Talking to The Sentinel, AGP president Atul Bora said, "The present state government under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma is a development-and-people-oriented one. Since we are BJP's alliance partner, we are doing our organizational activities. We are making the development activities of the government reach the people of the state."

The AGP has nine MLAs, including two ministers, in the coalition government in the state.
