Agriculture Minister Atul Bora warns vegetable vendors against overcharging from customers

GUWAHATI: Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, on Tuesday, warned the vegetable merchants that are overcharging from customers. Bora along with State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury visited the Pamohi Vegetable Market and discussed with the merchants and took stock of the ongoing situation and price of the vegetables.

He stated that merchants will be punished if they are caught overcharging from customers. Further, he informed that the Assam State Agriculture Market Board has fixed vegetable rates for Guwahati and urged the merchants to follow the price list accordingly.

According to the list, prices of some of the vegetables are as follows: Cauliflower – Rs. 18 per kilo, Cabbage- Rs. 28 per kilo, Tomato- Rs. 18 per kilo and Pumpkin- Rs. 20 per kilo

“The Assam Government has formed a monitoring committee under the chairmanship of Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner and the committee will look after all the reports”, Bora added.

It is to be mentioned that, due to the lockdown, the prices of vegetables have sky rocketed. In some areas people are buying vegetables at twice the amount.
