GUWAHATI: Yet again the common citizens of India including Guwahati will bear the burnt in their pockets with the rise of the price of non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder just ahead of the Assam Assembly election 2021.

It is to be mentioned that just three days ago, the prices were hiked by Rs 25.

On February 25, the prices for cooking gas were hiked by Rs 25. It was the third hike in the month of February. Earlier, the prices were increased on February 4 and February 14.

In Guwahati the LPG price of a non-subsidised cylinder cost Rs. 843, however, now after the hike of Rs. 25 it will cost the common man Rs. 868 and the subsidy will remain constant at Rs. 52.

A citizen in Guwahati said, "It's better we roll back to our early days when people use to cook on a wood fire, this govt is merciless and just doing business and playing with supply and demand. "

On the other hand, although the Assam state government have removed the COVID-19 cess from the fuel oil, the daily price hike by a margin of 30-40 paise is inching towards a new normal.

Speaking to Sentinel, one of the cab drivers said, "With the increase in fuel price we are finding it difficult to survive."

"After paying the fuel dues and paying commission to the company we have nothing left, we hope the govt notice this," he added.

Another commuter said, "What I have seen, since the start of the BJP govt, the price of fuel oil has only gone up and no sign of coming down." "The hike is done by Rs. 3-4 but the reduction is done in paise," he added.

Further, he added that the common man is bearing all the burnt- from paying income tax, road tax and now never-ending hike in fuel price, we are the chosen one.

Meanwhile, in other states, the increase in LPG has now taken the price of a 14.2 kg household gas cylinder to Rs 819 in Delhi.

On December 1, its rate was increased from Rs 594 to Rs 644 and then on December 15, its price was again increased to Rs 694. That is, 100 rupees was increased within a month. However, the prices were not raised in January. In January, the price of non-subsidized LPG (14.2 KG) was Rs 694.
