GUWAHATI: Condemning the ST Amendment Bill to 6 communities of the State, the All India Tribal Students’ Association, Assam (AITSAA) alleged that the demographic density of the present ST people of Assam will be badly affect.
While addressing the media on Thursday, the Association said that they will not accept the Bill because the six communities does not fulfill the criteria of Scheduled Tribes as per the norms of Registrar of National Scheduled Tribe of the Government.
AITSAA advisor Arindom Prince Panging said, “As per the Indian Government circular, any ST person cannot just claim ST status. The newly introduced ST Status Amendment Bill to 6 communities of the State will affect the socio-economic, cultural and political rights of existing ST people of the State. With 23000 ST backlog cases, why is the BJP led NDA Government trying to implement this Bill that will affect the demographic density of the present ST people of Assam?”
