GUWAHATI: Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and its sister organizations on Tuesday staged a Statewide protest demanding action against the miscreants who attacked the convoy of party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Nalbari district on Sunday (February 28).

The protest was staged at all State district headquarters and sub-divisions from 10 am to 1 pm by — Jatiya Mahila Parishad, Jatiya Shramik Shakti, Jatiya Yuba Shakti, Jatiya Sankhiyalogo Shakti, Jatiya Bongobhasi Asomiya Shakti, and Jatiya Cha Shakti.

Demanding arrest of the attackers, the AJP workers submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer of Assam through deputy commissioners, sub divisional officers, and circle officers.

In Kamrup Metro, a human-chain was formed at Dighalipukhuri to condemn the incident.

Taking part in the demonstration, AJP Kamrup Metro District president Sanjiv Bora stated, "Every person involved with the incident should get stringent punishment. The incident is not unfortunate but it is a cause of worry. By taking help of violence, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) workers have shown their undemocratic character. We will not stay quiet until action is taken against the persons responsible for the crime."

The AJP underlined that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who heads the Home Department should take responsibility of the incident.

"The CM should order the arrest of the BJP workers at the earliest," Bora added.

During the attack at Kalag near Borbhag under Borkhetri LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) in Nalbari district, Lurinjyoti Gogoi's car got past the spot. However, the car of AJP leader and former Assembly Speaker Pulakesh Baruah was damaged badly.
