GUWAHATI: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a statewide protest in all district units against the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

By burning effigies of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Petroleum Minister, the AJYCP members demanded immediate steps from the Government to control the price hike.

In a statement issued to the media, AJYCP general secretary PalashChangmai vehemently slammed the BJP-led government by stating that it has thrashed the people by surging prices of essential commodities and fuel.

"After coming to power, the Government has been working for the interests of corporate houses and capitalists. It has been skillfully increasing the prices of petrol and diesel. In the last one year, the prices of fuel have been raised by Rs 20. The fuel prices are much less in Bhutan and Nepal that purchase crude oil from India. Additionally, the Government imposes cess of Rs 47 on a litre of fuel," Changmai said.

He argued that the BJP is putting a burden of tax on the people as it is not being able to run the government.

"Due to the price hike, the prices of essential commodities are also rising. If this continues, the people will be in grave danger. It is an anti-public policy by the government," the leader added.
