GUWAHATI: The All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees' Association on Friday staged a protest demanding job regularization for the workers.

"We are working with the Mrityunjoy service since the year 2008. We work as hard as other health workers. However, we have been deprived from benefits like other government employees," said the body's president Pranjal Jyoti Saikia while talking to The Sentinel.

Further, Saikia underlined that on August 1, 2020 Health Minister announced that the workers under the NHM who provided their selfless services during the COVID pandemic will be allowed to work till the age of 60. They will get equal salary as government employees along with other benefits. A government order was also issued regarding the same, said Saikia.

"The 108 employees have also worked tirelessly as the NHM workers during the pandemic. Many of our workers got infected with COVID-19 and later joined their duties after recovery. These workers also donated their plasma following the Health Minister's appeal. Despite getting less salary, the 108 workers donated Rs 3.05 lakh to Assam Arogya Nidhi. There are above 3,000 workers under 108 Mrityunjoy service. It has been 12 years since our service, thus our jobs should be secured," added Saikia on behalf of the employees' association.
