GUWAHATI: The AAEA (All Assam Engineer's Association) observed "Engineers Day" on Wednesday. On the occasion, the Association president Er Kailash Sarma and also its working president Er Nava J. Thakuria and secretary Er Inamul Hye in a press release issued here greeted the engineering fraternity in particular and everyone in general "as the Northeast India-based forum of graduate engineers believes that each individual has an engineering mind irrespective of their adopted professions".

It may be mentioned that the "Engineers Day" is observed in several countries on different dates. As the name indicates, the day is dedicated to the engineers; and it is celebrated on September 15 in India. The day marks the birth anniversary of Indian civil engineer Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya.

Born on September 15, 1861 at Muddenahalli Village in Karnataka, Vishweshvaraya completed his graduation in Civil Engineering from Pune Science College. As an honour to his contributions to the field of engineering and education, the Union government declared Vishweshvaraya's birth anniversary as the 'Engineers Day' in 1968.

Engineers are considered as the backbone of every nation. India continues to produce more than 1.5 million engineers every year from its over 4000 institutes. Indian engineers are always recognised in different countries for their meticulous thought process and also skills to solve problems. The annual celebration helps the engineers to reorganize their commitment for the nation.

"We have also taken the opportunity to wish for the 'Vishwakarma Jayanti', the day dedicated to the worshiping of the Hindu deity of engineering on 17 September. The divine architect of the universe is always adored by numerous engineers, artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, factory workers, etc," added the AAEA press release.
