GUWAHATI: The All Assam Homoeopathic Doctors' Association of the three Homoeopathic Medical Colleges has welcomed the decision of the State Government for amalgamation of the three Homoeopathic Medical Colleges of Assam into one state-of-the-art Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital at Guwahati.
The association said that while there are three Homoeopathic Medical Colleges and Hospitals in the State at Guwahati, Nagaon and Jorhat, but all the three colleges were deficient from all aspects to impart for quality homoeopathic medical education. There is major shortage of manpower in the cadre of teaching faculties, hospital staff, office staff etc. Moreover, the colleges have poor infrastructure to accommodate the students joining the BHMS courses after qualifying through NEET and all India AYUSH counselling, the association said.
As such, the association has wholeheartedly welcomed the decision taken by Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta.
However, the association pointed out some problems faced by the homoeopathic fraternity of the State. These include appointment of over 500 unemployed homoeopathic doctors under different schemes of AYUSH, NHM and other schemes; introduction of postgraduate course (MD) course for the BHMS graduates; and ensuring of functional IPDS in the newly-formed amalgamated hospital with specialty doctors (Pathologist/Gynaecologist/Radiologist /Surgeon), nurses, technicians, other supporting staff.
