GUWAHATI: The All Assam Judicial Employees’ Association has announced that they will not be working on June 27 as a mark of protest against the non-implementation of the suggestions of the Shetty Commission and the non-fulfilment of their demands. They have demanded an increment in salaries.
As per the hearing of the writ petition WP (C) 1022/1989 on 7/10/2009, the supreme court ordered the implementation of the suggestions of the Shetty Commission from 1/4/2003 with a deadline of one year to implement the same. But even after repeated requests, the Assam Government has not implemented the same. Also, the Supreme Court ordered the creation of the second National Judicial Pay Commission as a result of case number WP/643/2015 on 9/5/2017. But the same has not been implemented to date.
Members of the organisation mentioned that the non-implementation of the suggestions has created problems in terms of appointment as well as promotion of the employees. This has resulted in the registration of multiple cases in the Gauhati High Court in this regard. The drivers attached to the officials of the judiciary and the chowkidars employed in the offices have been exempted from this protest.
