All Assam Students' Union pays homage to Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati

The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) paid tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary centrally at Dighalipukhuripar in Guwahati today.

GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) paid tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary centrally at Dighalipukhuripar in Guwahati today. Units of the AASU paid tributes to the balladeer all over the state.

AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath, general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah and adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya paid homage to Dr Hazarika at his statute at Dighalipukhuri in the morning.

The AASU leaders also went to the balladeer's Samadhi Kshetra at Jalukbari and paid him tribute. In the evening, the student union and the general public lit 10,000 flames at the statue of the singer and around the Dighalipukhuri.

Leaders of the student body raised the demand for the inclusion of Dr Hazarika's creative arts in the educational curriculum, besides the setting up of a Bhupen Hazarika International Research Institute and naming the Guwahati Railway Station and Rail Terminus after Bhupen Hazarika. It also demanded a chair in each of the universities in the state.
