GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) staged a statewide protest against the government's plan to hike property tax and prices.
The student union said that the State government would have to cancel its anti-people policies. The AASU exempted is Kamrup district unit from the protest as a mark of respect to the President of India, who is in the state now.
A statement issued by AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "The prices of essential commodities are very high in the state, making people feel the pinch badly. Against such a backdrop, the State Government has planned to hike property tax. The government has to cancel its property tax hike plan."
