GUWAHATI: At the call of the All Assam Students' Union central committee, the district committee of the students' body staged a protest on Wednesday at all district headquarters against the Dibrugarh incident in which few AASU members were arrested by the police. In Guwahati, the protest was staged at Dighalipukhuripaar by the All Kamrup (metro) District Students' Union. The activists tied black cloths over their mouth during the two-hour protest.

The activists alleged that a few days ago the Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police entered the AASU office- Swahid Bhavan- and roughed up the AASU members and few students who were taking computer training in the office at that time. The police also arrested a few AASU members.

All Kamrup (metro) District Students' Union president Rajmil Ali and general secretary Tutumoni Kalita said, "Police atrocities executed under political pressure will not be tolerated. The people of Assam have strong sentiments towards the Swahid Bhavan. It is sacred for us. The AASU will never give into such domination."

They said that unless the arrested AASU members are released and appropriate action is taken against the police officials involved in the incident, they would continue their stir.
