GUWAHATI: The All Assam Tribal Sangha, Guwahati district unit took out a torchlight procession on Friday with their demand not to provide tribal status to six tribes --n Ahom, Chutia, Koch Rajbangshi, Moran, Matak and tea tribes and to cancel the Constitution (scheduled tribe) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2019. The Sangha took out the procession at Nayanpur Path in Ganeshguri and appealed to the State and Central Governments that providing tribal status to these six tribes will deprive the 'actual tribals' from every aspect including education and job to politics. The secretary of Guwahati District Tribal Sangha, Bhularaj Doley said that providing tribal status to these six communities is not acceptable o them. He said the tribal associations will go for massive democratic protests.
