GUWAHATI: The All Guwahati Students' Union (AGSU), a unit of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) staged a protest near Judges Field on Tuesday against the price hike of essential commodities in the State.

Wearing masks of Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal, Finance Minister HimantaBiswaSarma and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, the protestors raised slogans against the government for their 'failure' in controlling the soaring prices.

The protest was held under the presidentship of AGSU president Anwar Hussain, and general secretary TutumoniChoudhury. Over 200 protestors wearing garlands made of vegetables and beating utensils demanded the government to relief the public by controlling the price hike.

In a statement, AGSU president Anwar Hussain said due to the failure of Assam government the prices of essential commodities have surged and distressed the people.

"The government departments have failed and the CM Sonowal-led government is being an onlooker of the price hike. This will never be acceptable," added AGSU general secretary TutumoniChoudhury.
