Assam: All High Schools to Be Upgraded to Higher Secondary, Per the National Education Policy, Says Pegu

GUWAHATI: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that as per the National Education Policy (NEP), all high schools in the state will be upgraded to higher secondary schools. A meeting was held at the Assam Secretariat in the Minister’s Chamber between the Education Minister and All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers’ and Employees’ Associations on Wednesday. In this meeting, the associations made various demands to the Education Minister, and various discussions were held.

Ranoj Pegu said that higher secondary schools with science streams will be provided with financial assistance for the reconstruction and repair of the science laboratory. Also, steps will be taken to fill up the vacant posts from fourth grade to postgraduate teachers of all higher secondary schools. In this regard, the association appealed to the government to prepare a list of all vacant posts. Regarding the issue of upgrading the pay structure of graduate teachers in higher secondary schools, Pegu said that while creating the service rules, the pay structure will be taken into consideration. The graduate teachers are demanding an upgrade in the pay structure from band 3 to band 4.
