GUWAHATI: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Guwahati, planned under Phase-V of the 22 new AIIMS of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY), celebrated its 3rd Institute Day on January 12 last to mark the commencement of academic activities at AIIMS Guwahati.
This year's celebration was especially significant as for the first time it was celebrated in the main campus of AIIMS Guwahati under the leadership of Executive Director Prof Ashok Puranik, stated a press release.
The celebrations were spread over two days. On January 11, various sports, cultural, environmental and literary competitions were organized for students, faculty, nursing officers and other staff. January 12 was marked by an academic extravaganza. The chief guest of the event was Prof Gitanjali Batmanabane, a renowned academician and administrator. Prof Batmanabane delivered the Institute Day Oration and eminent surgeon Prof Subhash Khanna delivered the keynote address on the occasion.
The programme also showcased the cultural diversity of the AIIMS Guwahati family with various melodious renditions by staff, faculty and students. The event was also marked by the presence of prominent invited guests, including Director of NIPER, SP of Kamrup, and Commandant of Army Base Hospital, Basistha, to name a few.
