Allegation of encroachment of HC land: Team asked to inspect site

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has ordered an inspection of land belonging to the court in Malibagan at Kharghuli (Guiualutti) in the Kamrup (M) district, which has been allegedly been encroached upon by many people. Those asked to inspect the area and submit a report are the Registrar General of the High Court, the PWD Executive Engineer concerned and court's counsel HK Das.

It may be mentioned that a PIL had been filed (No. 7/2015) in the court alleging that numerous persons had encroached upon land belonging to the High Court and constructed residences there.

Subsequent to filing of the PIL, a report submitted by the Registry of the court and the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) had disclosed that 67 High Court employees have encroached and built up residences in the land in question along with 64 other persons. The names and designations of the employees were also furnished in the report.

The matter will be heard again on April 21.
