GUWAHATI: A team from the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress on Tuesday visited the Assam State Women Commission and raised several questions regarding the inaction of the State and Central governments regarding matters related to the safety of women. The team enquired as to why no action was taken after the rape of a 13-year-old in Bordubi of the Tinsukia district on March 20, even after a case was registered regarding the same.

Following this, Mira Borthakur, the president of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, addressed a press conference wherein she raised several questions. She questioned why the State Government had taken no action against Mukul Kathar, posted in Karbi Anglong, for allegedly threatening and beating up his sister-in-law. She also questioned the inaction of the Central Government regarding the sexual harassment allegations against the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) even though many Olympians have taken to the streets.
