Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple begins from today

The annual four-day Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple will start from Wednesday.

GUWAHATI: The annual four-day Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple will start from Wednesday.

Pravritti of the Mela will be performed at 8.19 pm on June 22 and the main door of the temple will be closed. The main door of the temple will remain closed on June 23, June 24 and June 25 and only rituals will be performed. No visitors will be allowed whne the rituals will be performed. The door will be opened for devotees on June 26 at 8.43 am (Nivritti).

Due to the COVID situation, especially now when cases are on the rise in Guwahati, there will no accomodation facility in the temple premises. The district administration has issued guidelines to ensure strict adherence to COVID protocol. Sadhus who have come from various parts of the country, took out a procession in the temple premises on Tuesday.

The Ambubachi Mela is celebrated every year at Kamakhya Temple and it is believed that Maa Kamakhya goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time. Every year, lakhs of devotees and pilgrims visit Kamakhya Temple during the Ambubachi Mela but in the last two years, Ambubachi Mela was not observed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
