Animal sacrifice ceremony in Ugratara Devalaya cancelled due to COVID

The animal sacrifice ceremony in the Ugratara Devalaya will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

GUWAHATI: The animal sacrifice ceremony in the Ugratara Devalaya will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Talking to The Sentinel, member of the Devalaya, Koilash Sarma said for the first time in 976 years the sacrificial ceremony has been cancelled. He underlined that the prasad distribution ceremony has also been cancelled and no person will be allowed to have bhog. Last year a total of around 1,000 animals and birds were sacrificed which include 13 buffaloes. This year only the main sacrifice will be conducted, Sarma added.
