Guwahati: Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests are back in the city. A protest demanding immediate withdrawal of the Act was held in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The protest organized by Anti-CAA Coordination Committee (CAA Virodhi Samanvay Samiti), highlighted the ill-effects of the legislation and said that CAA would ruin the heritage, culture, language, and identity of Assamese people.

The protesters demanded NRC in place of CAA and said that the government has been functioning in the most undemocratic way. "Next year, 2021 will be the last year BJP will rule because of the way it has troubled and created problems for the people of the state and the region. People will not choose the BJP government again," protesters said.

A protester said that the government should release Akhil Gogoi, Debangana Kalita along with other CAA protesters as soon as possible with no condition. "We are once again creating awareness among the people of the state and trying to tell them that it will create a troublesome situation for the people of Assam if BJP rules the state again," Deben Tamuly, a senior member of the Committee said.

A youth said," We told the government that we do not need CAA, we want NRC because NRC is the only way which could save the state and its people. And CAA is something which would ruin everything."
