GUWAHATI: The Anusuchit Jati Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom, expressed disappointment over the State government’s decision to hike the petrol and diesel prices, on Wednesday.

The body’s president Rubul Das said that the decision to hike the prices of petrol and diesel and reopening of three toll gates in the State have hurt the sentiments of the people. “The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is giving assistance to the poor and needy people through various schemes as the lockdown has disrupted the economy of both the country and the State. The students are not being able to connect with their studies and people with ailments are struggling to buy medicines. Thus, it is not the right decision to hike the prices at this point of time,” the leader added. Further, talking about the condition of the farmers, Das said that farmers are incurring losses due to the lockdown. “The price hike will hit the farmers’ community because they need diesel to run their machineries,” he asserted.
