GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday demanded that Rituparna Pegu's murder case should be tried in the fast-track court.

Addressing the media at Rajib Bhawan on Monday, APCC president Ripun Bora said, "We are happy that the accused have been arrested, but we demand the government to ensure punishment for all the culprits. We feel worried that the State is witnessing increasing number of cases related to mob lynching. Only exemplary punishment will help reduce such heinous activities."

Further, Bora alleged that many private schools are pressuring parents for school fees and other additional fees like bus fare, library fees etc. "Everyone is affected by the lockdown. This is injustice to all the parents whose children study in private schools. The government directed the private schools for 50 per cent exemption of monthly fees for the month of April. As schools have not been reopened yet, we demand the government to take strict action against the private schools authorities who are pressurizing parents for fees during the lockdown period," he said.
