GUWAHATI: The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Bhupen Bora apologized for the incident related to the Mising traditional cloth named ‘Ribi Gaseng’.
Bhupen Bora mentioned that during his visit to the residence of the former village headman of the Na-Paam Kuli village in Jonai, the house owners respectfully asked them to sit on the piece of cloth. He said that he was extremely sorry as he later came to know that the particular piece of cloth that they were asked to sit on was in fact ‘Ribi Gaseng’ and he was unaware as to why the hosts had asked them to sit on the same.
He also said that respecting all cultures and traditions was one of the key duties and he did not wish to hurt the sentiments of the Mising people. He further requested that members of the community to forgive him as the mistake had happened unknowingly.
