GUWAHATI: The 1X100-MW Namrup Replacement Power Project was scheduled to be commissioned on October 2 2019. Most of the work on this project has been completed in September. M/s BHEL, the turnkey contractor of the project, synchronized the Gas Turbine unit of the plant on September, 2019 and the Steam turbine on October 2, 2019. Unfortunately, while running the units on September 2, 2019 a technical snag took place because of which the plant had to be shut down for cooling and defect correction. M/s BHEL is hopeful of removing the technical snag soon, thereafter the plant will become operational after following laid down procedures and protocol.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Assam visited Namrup on September 26, 2019 and reviewed the progress of the Project. Since some work on the plant was still to be completed the Chief Minister directed BHEL and APGCL to complete the remaining work at the earliest so that he may fix a date for formal inauguration, a press release said. The Managing Director of the APGCL regretted for not being able to commission as scheduled. He, however, said that all efforts are being made to remove the technical snag so that the plant may be commissioned at the earliest.
