GUWAHATI: The Assam State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the 'silence' of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) over the arrest of 15 persons from across the State for making pro-Taliban comments on social media.

In the press statement, the State BJP said that among those arrested for pro-Taliban comments was Maulana Fazlul Kasimi, the secretary of the State Jamiat Ulema and also the general secretary of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). The BJP questioned whether the Congress' silence in this matter was due to the alliance of the party with the AIUDF. The State BJP further said that it was a matter of deep concern that there was a section of people in Assam who were supporting the Taliban's violent takeover of Afghanistan despite the atrocities committed on the people of Afghanistan by the Taliban. This does not bode well for Assam, said the State BJP.
