Ashes of former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi immersed in Biswanath ghat

Various party organizations and party leaders paid rich tribute to the former three-time Assam CM in the tribute ceremony held at Biswanath chariali

Biswanath: The pot containing the ashes of Gogoi was immersed in the holy water of Brahmaputra at Biswanath ghat on Thursday evening.

Before the immersion of the ashes of former Assam Chief Minister late Tarun Gogoi a tribute (Shradhanjali) ceremony was held at Chandrapur, Biswanath on Thursday.

After Gogoi's son and Lok Sabha MP from Kaliabor, Gaurav Gogoi arrived at Biswanath with Gogoi's ashes the ceremony began and various party organizations and party leaders paid rich tribute to the former three-time Assam CM.

At the same time, an all-religion prayer meeting was also organized praying for eternal peace for the departed soul of the veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi.

Assam Congress president Ripun Bora, General secretary Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, former Minister Nurjamal Sarkar, Bishwanath district Congress president Dilip Kumar Borua, general secretary Anjan Bora were present at the tribute ceremony.

On Wednesday (December 9) in Jorhat the ashes of Gogoi were immersed in the mighty Brahmaputra, off Nimatighat by Gaurav Gogoi in presence of family members – Gogoi's wife Dolly Gogoi, younger brother Deep Gogoi, and top Congress party leaders at around 4.45 pm.

The pot carrying the ashes of late Gogoi was taken to Jorhat from Guwahati by Gaurav Gogoi and his family members, accompanied by party leaders on Tuesday (December 8).

A Smriti Shanti Sadbhavna Yatra was carried out from 9 to 12 December before the immersion of the ashes of Gogoi to fulfill Gogoi's last wish.

The tallest Assam Congress leader passed away on November 23 at 05.34 pm in the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after fighting against Covid related ailments. And his last rites were performed on November 26 at the Navagraha crematorium in Guwahati.
