GUWAHATI: The AGP had a crucial meeting of its office-bearers at its Ambari headquarters today on the forthcoming Lok Saba and Panchayat polls and decided to form all booth committees of the party within two months.

Party president and minister Atul Bora presided over the meeting that was attended by central committee members and others of the party.

The meeting reviewed the outcome of the recent series of party workers’ meetings in various Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. After the review, the meeting decided to hold meetings again on May 29 in Dibrugarh and June 4 in Lakhimpur.

Addressing the meeting, Atul Bora said, "The importance of regional politics has always been there, and it has received a boost in recent times. We have to avail of this opportunity. I appeal to all AGP workers to be with the people of the state and work for the party."

Bora said, "Formed in 1985 after the historic Assam Agitation, the party will complete forty years in 2025. We need to strengthen the party further. We need to amend the party constitution to make it in sync with modern times. By adopting any political strategy, we will have to send an AGP member to the Lok Sabha in 2024."

AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, senior leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury, and other senior leaders spoke on the occasion.

Keshab Mahanta said, "We need to lay stress on strengthening various wings of the AGP."
