GUWAHATI: A delegation of the AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) held a meeting with BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leaders at the latter's headquarters in the Hengrabari area here. Addressing the meet, AGP president and Minister Atul Bora said, "After the Congress came to power in 2001, it made Assam corrupt and indisciplined. When the Mitrojoot came to power in 2016, the government worked hard to remove the corruption and indiscipline work across the State. Thus, the people again gave their mandate to the BJP in 2021 polls."

Bora said that when the AGP allied with the BJP in 2016, it secured 14 seats. "In the recently held polls, the AGP left many sitting seats for the alliance parties. Due to this, other seats were allotted to us. However, it was not easy for the party to contest and win votes in the newly-allotted constituencies. But we understood that it would have been harder for the BJP to win in those constituencies. At last, the party secured 9 seats this year," said Bora.

Further, the Minister stressed that it will not leave Assam in the hands of Congress and the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) at any cost.

"To defeat the Congress and the AIUDF, we forged an alliance with the BJP again. The works done by the Mitrojoot for the people after coming to power in 2016 has not been done by any government since independence. We will continue the alliance with the BJP for the overall development of the people of Assam," Bora added.

The AGP delegation which attended the meeting included AGP working president Keshab Mahanta and several office-bearers of the party. From the BJP, organizational general secretary Phanindra Nath Sarma, MP Tapan Gogoi, Chief Minister's Political Secretary Jayanta Malla Baruah, and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
