GUWAHATI: Sharp reactions continued on Wednesday across Northeast after the army fired indiscriminately and killed 15 innocent people in Nagaland's Mann district recently.

Assam has also had a strong reaction to the massacre by the army in Nagaland. There have been demands for repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Demanding repeal of the 'Armed Forces Special Powers Act' (AFSPA), members of the AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad) staged a two-hour sit-in programme in front of the offices of the DCs (Deputy Commissioners and the subdivisional Chairmen of the districts across the state. In a press release sent to the media later, the president of Council's Central Committee Rana Pratap Baruah and general secretary Palash Sangma said that the killings in Mon district of Nagaland on December 4 was not the first incident.

"For more than two decades, many such killings have taken place in the NE, especially in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur in the name of militant repression by the Army."

Rana Pratap Baruah added. "This is a matter of regret is that families of the victims have never received justice".
