GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) has renewed its demand for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and scrapping of the New Pension Scheme.

The ASPTA submitted a letter in this regard to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday and termed the New Pension Scheme as detrimental to the interests of teachers and Government employees.

The letter stated that under the aegis of the All India Primary Teachers' Federation, teachers of primary schools across the country have been opposing the new scheme ever since it was implemented in April, 2005.

The letter mentioned that the ASPTA had submitted memorandums for scrapping the New Pension Scheme to previous Chief Ministers Late Tarun Gogoi and Sarbananda Sonowal.

In this context, the letter pointed out that the Governments of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have already announced that they are going to scrap the New Pension Scheme and restore the Old Pension Scheme and urged the Chief Minister to see to it that Assam also follows suit.

Such a move would ensure a secure future and post-retirement protection to all teachers and employees of the State.
