Assam Anganwadi workers continue protest in support of employee status

The Assam State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants’ Union continued their three-day non-cooperation movement in every district, protesting in support of their long-standing demands.

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants’ Union continued their three-day non-cooperation movement in every district, protesting in support of their long-standing demands. In Kamrup (M), the union protested at the offices of Integrated Child Development Project officers on Thursday in Noonmati, Chandrapur, and Beltola. Assam State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Union is affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

The union said that in Assam, there are about 1, 17,000 Anganwadi workers and helpers who should be recognized as government employees. The union demands an increase in wage for the workers, the payment of one-time relief to the retired workers within October 20, the payment of gratuity, and the recognition of the Anganwadi workers and assistants as regular employees.

The protest was led in Kamrup (M) by Union general secretary Indira Newar and Kamrup (M) District Committee member Junu Chetia at the Integrated Child Development Project Officer’s offices. The protest was also staged in Dimoria by the Integrated Child Development Project officers.
