GUWAHATI: Aiming to root out the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election, the Jatiyatabad Punor Nirman Samiti (JPNS) has appealed to all the political parties and organizations to unite on common grounds.
The JPNS made the appeal during a programme that was held to observe the death anniversary of renowned Assamese nationalist Nibaran Bora.His death anniversary was observed as an 'Integration Day' by several organizations in Guwahati. In the programme, a resolution was taken by all the parties and organizations to keep their differences aside and unite on common grounds to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming polls.
"If all the parties and regional forces do not unite then it will not be possible to remove the BJP from power in the polls," said JPNS general secretary Rajkumar Baishya.
The bodies argued that the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) adopted by the General Assembly on 2007 should also be implemented in Assam to safeguard the rights of the indigenous population.
The meeting was chaired by JPNS president Rafiqul Hussain Baruah and was also attended by MP Ajit Bhuyan, Vaishnavite scholar Prabhat Chandra Das.
Representatives of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti, Sadou AsomGoria Parishad, Khilanjiya Jonogusthi Mahasabha, Anchalik Gana Morcha, and Khilanjiya Adhikar Sangram Samiti were present during the programme.
