GUWAHATI: The Assam Association of the Deaf paid tribute to the victims killed in police firing amidst the protest against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) on Friday at Guwahati Press Club and said that the deaf will never accept the CAA.

Addressing a press meet, the association said that besides filing a petition against the act in the Supreme Court, the deaf have also filed a complaint at the Human Rights Commission regarding Internet Data Restriction.

The Association said, “Restriction in internet service has violated the fundamental right. The deaf have full support to all the protest programmes announced by different organization against CAA. Because, the deaf thinks that providing citizenship to Bangladeshis is nothing but conspiracy of the government to be in power.

General Secretary of Assam Association of the Deaf Tapan Kumar Sarma said that the association had already adjourned their protest programme announced on December 12. “The deaf will continue its protest against CAA and by simultaneously continuing both education and protest. The association will never compromise the education of the deaf and soon it’ll start protest regarding different issues including economic problem, education, sports and many others,”Sarma said.
