Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) flags off World Cancer Day programme

GUWAHATI: Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) — an initiative of the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts – has begun its month-long cancer awareness programme at the State Cancer Institute in Guwahati, the DC office at Amingaon, the AMCH (Assam Medical College and Hospital) in Dibrugarh, TMCH (Tezpur Medical College and Hospital) at Tezpur, JMCH (Jorhat Medical College and Hospital) in Jorhat and FAAMCH (Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital) in Barpeta.

Aligned with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)'s theme, this year, "I Am and I Will", ACCF aimed at creating awareness that it is possible to win against cancer.

Dr B.C. Goswami, Director — SCI spoke on the event. He said, "Cancer can be prevented and it is curable. Right lifestyle choices can help prevent cancer, while early detection is the key to getting treatment on time and being cured."

He praised the good works of the ACCF in creating awareness in communities. This was followed by speech by Dr Devajit Choudhury and later balloons were released and a socio-cultural event like skit and songs were presented by some of the talented doctors and nurses to give a message aligned to the theme of cancer care.

Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Chintey — Project Director, ACCF, said, "We are here for a noble cause. The Government of Assam and Tata Trusts have initiated to boost the cancer care scenario in the State. Creating awareness is integral to the cancer care programme and we have our teams working in communities for educating and screening people.''
